John's interest in photography began in New Jersey, when as a child, he received a Polaroid/Land camera.
(The old ones that had roll film and stick fixers. That's for you 1960's era folk). He studied with photographer Marc Cohen at King's College in Wilkes Barre, PA, who influenced his style of seeing 'the unusual' aspect of street photography. At King's he made the film, "A Day of Hell" which garnered interest for it's depiction of Wilkes Barre, which merely month's later was devastated by the flood waters of Hurricane Agnes. He subsequently had an exhibition of the flood and its aftermath in Wilkes Barre at Yale's Cross Campus Library when he relocated to New Haven, CT to obtain a Master's Degree from Southern Connecticut State University. John then spent four years as Media Specialist with The Connecticut Police Academy producing video and still photography for cadet training. He was media/TV Producer for 16 years at a local regional high school and taught undergraduate and graduate Media courses at SCSU for nine years. He now works extensively in the commercial/photojournalistic field. His assignments have led him to travel throughout the US, Caribbean and Europe. John and his wife Janelle also collaborate on writing features for Connecticut Magazine, most notably a series on a hotly debated Connecticut topic: New Haven Apizza! He is currently cataloging a vast inventory of images from over 35 years of every aspect of life as his camera captures it. As they become available these photos will be accessible from the Gallery section at this website. John's event photography has given him the opportunity to work with charitable and fundraising organizations such as: The American Heart Association Connecticut Farmland Trust Protector's of Animals American Diabetes Foundation and many, many others. A drummer for over 40 years John equates timing in percussion with the timing necessary to making a unique photo. John considers himself a 'chronicler' of human life, nature and experiences.
